Baltimore Roots, Artistic Beginnings
Tracie Marie Jiggetts was raised in Baltimore, a city whose rhythm, resilience, and cultural depth would come to shape every stage she would later command. From an early age, movement and performance were not extracurricular pursuits but a primary language — a way of processing the world and communicating within it.
Her formal artistic training began in Baltimore's performing arts community, where early instruction in dance and theatre established the technical foundation for a career that would eventually span performance, direction, choreography, and education. This early exposure to structured artistic discipline instilled a rigor that continues to inform her practice today.
Tracie furthered her training at Coppin State University, a historically Black institution rooted in Baltimore, where her performing arts education was formalized alongside a growing understanding of how art functions as a tool for development, communication, and community building. This academic foundation positioned her to move fluidly between the stage, the classroom, and the rehearsal room — a versatility that remains central to her work as an interdisciplinary artist.
